Quick Summary
Kundli analysis for relationships means reading your kundli, a Vedic birth chart, for love, partnership, and timing. Kundli matching is built around one question: are these two people right for marriage?
Your question may be different. Maybe a relationship has stalled, or one has ended and you want to make sense of it.
This guide shows which parts of a kundli speak to dating, breakups, and marriage. This information is current as of October 2, 2026, and the survey figures come from fall 2024.
Kundli analysis for relationships looks at the love, partnership, and timing themes astrologers read from a Vedic birth chart. A kundli is a chart of where the Sun, Moon, five planets, and two lunar nodes stood at the moment of birth, placed across 12 zodiac signs. Readers then interpret houses, planets, and timing periods from that snapshot.
Reading a kundli to predict events or personality has no scientific basis. This guide treats it as tradition and reflection.
Most Americans who use astrology keep it light. In Pew’s fall 2024 survey, 27% of U.S. adults said they believe in astrology, and 28% said they consult astrology or a horoscope at least once or twice a year.
The same survey found that about 20% of U.S. adults say fun is their main reason for using astrology, tarot, or fortune tellers, while 10% say helpful insights are. Just 1% rely on them a lot for major life decisions.
Kundli compatibility leans toward marriage because its best-known method, Ashtakoot Guna Milan, was designed to judge marriage matches. It scores eight categories, called kootas, from both partners’ Moon signs and birth stars, for a maximum of 36 points. One practitioner guide lists the traditional labels: 18 to 24 acceptable, 25 to 32 very good, and 33 to 36 excellent.
That design suits a family weighing a wedding. It fits less well when the question is “Should we keep dating?” or “Why did this end?”
The same guide notes that Ashtakoot does not assess the 7th house, the running dasha periods, or the Navamsa (D9) chart, a divisional chart tied to marriage. So the score is one layer of kundli analysis for relationships, not the whole picture.
e 7th house for marriage. A kundli reading for love therefore looks at the 5th house, its ruling planet, and any planets placed in it. Your stage decides which house leads the reading.
One traditional analysis says a love relationship may not turn into marriage when the 7th house and its lord have no link to the ascendant (Lagna), the 5th house, or the 9th house, or to their lords.
The 36-point score is built from Moon signs and birth stars, so it does not read the 7th house.
Timing comes from the Vimshottari dasha, a 120-year cycle of nine planetary periods. The Moon’s birth star (nakshatra) sets your starting point. Traditional practice times marriage through periods of planets tied to the 7th house.
Vedic relationship astrology reads endings through the same clock. One traditional analysis links separation to dasha periods tied to the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses.
So a Vedic astrology breakup reading weighs which period was running and how it connects to those houses. Practitioners also weigh a planet’s strength and placement in the chart.
Start with your relationship stage, then match it to one chart layer: the 5th house for dating, the 7th for marriage, or the running dasha for an ending. Add a compatibility score only if you have two charts. The six steps below show how.
| Your stage | Read first | Then add |
| Dating | 5th house, its ruling planet, and planets in it | Running dasha |
| Committed, not married | 5th and 7th houses and how they link | Running dasha |
| Just ended | Dasha running at the time, and its ties to the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses | 5th house |
| Planning marriage | 7th house and dasha timing | Compatibility score, if you have two charts |
Picture someone in a two-year relationship that has stalled. Their stage is committed but unmarried, so they would start with the 5th and 7th houses and the current dasha. An Ashtakoot score would be one input among several.
Generate your chart, then write down your Lagna, Moon sign, birth nakshatra, and current dasha before you read any interpretation.
If you meet Vedic astrology in the US, expect a different zodiac. Vedic charts use the sidereal zodiac, which sits about 24 degrees from the tropical zodiac used in most Western charts. So your Sun, Moon, or rising sign can land in a different sign than you expect.
For most people, the Sun moves back one sign. A Western Gemini Sun, for example, is often read as Taurus in a Vedic chart.
Tools can also disagree. Two calculators can return different results because of a birth-time error or a different ayanamsa setting. Ayanamsa is the correction that converts tropical positions to sidereal ones.
A chart is not a substitute for professional advice on health, legal, or money matters. If a breakup is weighing on you, a trusted friend or a licensed counselor can help in ways a chart cannot.
Kundli analysis for relationships works best when your question comes first and the chart layer follows. Dating questions point toward the 5th house, marriage questions toward the 7th, and ending questions toward the dasha running at the time. Kundli compatibility scores add a useful marriage-focused layer, but they do not replace the rest.
Before you book a session with any astrologer, write your one-sentence question and ask which chart layer they will use to answer it.
